Real Life Center: Source for Mobile Food Pantry
September 2011
This year The Real Life Center (RLC) in Tyrone has been offering a mobile food pantry in conjunction with the Atlanta Community Food Bank. “We have about 20 volunteers from within the community that serve each month, and it’s a great program,” explains Cathy Berggren, RLC Director. “We’ve typically been serving about 100 to 140 families, but would like to serve more — the capacity is 200.”
The free non-perishables are distributed on a first come, first serve basis. The next distribution will be at Dogwood Church in Tyrone on Thursday, September 22, from 1:00-3:00 pm. (In case of bad weather, see the website about possible cancellation.) Recipients can be from any county, not just Fayette. They will be asked to sign for the food with name, address, and county, but will not be contacted by anyone; the information is collected to show that the food was distributed to families.
“We’d appreciate help in getting the word out to families who are struggling to make ends meet right now. We can provide flyers in English and Spanish for printing out and distributing,” adds RLC Volunteer Coordinator and Food Drive Coordinator Vicki Troyer.
